Today a major milestone was reached. The 6,000 signatures gathered by Grassroots St Vrain were combined with 136,000 others gathered from across Colorado and delivered to the Secretary of State. At a press conference today, Senator Rollie Heath commented on the number of signatures collected stating “this makes it virtually certain that in November Colorado voters will have the opportunity to reinvest in education.”
Senator Heath announced Bright Colorado, Citizen’s Initiative 25, on May 16th as a proposed ballot measure to stop a 4th year of deep cuts to education funding statewide. In just over two months, we helped accomplish something few elected officials in Colorado thought could be accomplished.
If the Secretary of State’s office confirms at least 86,105 valid signatures on the petitions, Coloradoans will have earned the right to have the conversation about what kind of Colorado we want to live in. There will be many more opportunities to help finish what has been started. Watch for information in the coming weeks about how you can help should this important initiative make the November 1st ballot.
Thanks to the many Grassroots St Vrain volunteers who helped to make this statewide petition drive a success.
