GSV Leadership attended the Great Futures Colorado annual Summit on Education. Alongside a crowd of 250 students, teachers, principals, parents, and invested community members from all over the state of Colorado, we heard the request to continue to engage in the conversation about public school funding. We attended break-out sessions regarding TABOR, heard the challenges of balancing multiple ballot measures, and learned from Dan Ritchie of Build a Better Colorado about work to move ballot measures forward based on public input over the winter.
Brush, Colorado’s very own Taylor Lobato, Lobato Vs. Colorado, moderated a session addressing the challenges in public funding in various areas around the state, including rural and urban areas. Current and past students shared compelling accounts about how budget changes in just a few short years have had an impact on their own opportunities and decisions.
Laura McDonald of GSV moderated an informative panel about harnessing the power of grassroots. Volunteer leaders from across the state of Colorado highlighted opportunities and strategies for engaging the public in the funding discussion at the both the state and local level.
